The sun is shining over Elliott Bay as we prepare to embark. But first, a quick trip back home for forgotten items. Yes, I do believe we are now ready as we have brought the entire house and all it's contents onto the boat.
Wait, a last minute decision is made to bring another boat with us - for as all true boaters know - you can never have too many vessels. So we add the sailing dinghy topside. That makes 4 boats on the boat: 2 kayaks, a dinghy dinghy and Jim's old sailing dinghy. Ready!
Zippy is on board in his yellow life vest, frowning. The two cats are new to boating but I believe Zippy filled them in as their eyes dart to all port holes as possible means of future escape before they burrow far under pillows, blankets and stray clothing. We are unbowed and set sail at 12:45 PM.
Our 4 hour trip to Port Townsend is notable for the most wake from other ships we have ever endured - it's like riding a hobbyhorse - pitching up and down. The cats cast me an evil eye from under the covers when I check on them, convinced this is worse torture than waterboarding.
As we rock and roll north, the temperture drops 20 degrees to 56 at our destination. We arrive at 5 PM. The pets did not jump overboard, no one hurled and we are safely ensconced in the harbor. Our first day is a success!
